On Friday February 27 Austrian triathlon professional, Michael Weiss, will launch into the new race season at Challenge Dubai.
The race is hosted in the largest city of the United Arab Emirates and is part of the new “Triple Crown” series offering up a flashy final million dollar prize purse.
The spectacular half-distance event has caught the eye of the triathlon world and will feature a pro start list comparable to a Wold Championship. For Weiss, the race will be an ideal assessment in early season shape and bike set-up going into 2015.
Weiss, now 3x Ironman Champion and one of triathlon’s strongest cyclists, will be powering an all new bike this year. The Falco Bike – an innovative and radically futuristic design driving the beam-bike trend in triathlon.
"The frame construction is called beam-bike,” Michael describes, "and has a unique geometry that brings me great aerodynamic benefits. A key factor is the extremely comfortable seating position, when you’re racing 112 miles on the bike followed by a marathon run comfort is crucial…”
“Falco is a company dedicated to designing the ultimate triathlon machine,” explains Falco CEO, Bin Tan. "By working with Michael Weiss, we have the opportunity to gain valuable experience from one of the best triathletes in the world on the bike and this feedback flows into the development of our bikes.”
Michi’s bike set-up for Dubai will be on the Falco V - named for its distinctive V frame shape, with XeNTiS wheels and the SRM PowerMeter. Weiss has been adapting to the new material during the winter season training in Lucca, Italy. “I have trained well over the last 8 weeks,” says Michael.
“Although I’m not in my absolute top form this early in the year, I will give my very best tomorrow with a goal of a top 10 finish. The prize money is of course extra motivation, but it’s not my main focus in being here. For me, it's a race like any other."
Michael will be racing alongside an incredibly strong men’s field including; Michael Raelert, Javier Gomez, Andy Potts, and Terenzo Bozzone.
