CARLSBAD, CA - MARCH 10, 2011. Sports Multiplied, LLC, the Carlsbad based USA distributor of the leading high performance sports apparel brand, 2XU, is pleased to announce it will sign an exclusive two year agreement as the Official Performance Apparel, Compression, and Wetsuit Sponsor of 2010 Ironman St. George Champion Michael Weiss. The 30-year-old Austrian will train and compete in head to toe 2XU apparel and compression, on and off the race course.
As a highly sought after triathlete who is turning heads in the industry, Weiss proudly made his selection and noted, "2XU is an exceptional company with innovative and reliable products.” Eager to represent the brand, Weiss added, "I am thrilled to announce my new partnership with 2XU and am confident that our work together will maximize my training, racing, and recovery.”
Hailing from the small village of Gumpoldskirchen, Austria, Weiss grew up on the trails of Mt. Anninger and dreamt of becoming a mountain bike professional as a child. This goal and determination lead Weiss to achieve success at a young age, winning the U-23 European Championship title and representing Austria at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
In 2008, Weiss had a breakout season by placing 2nd at Ironman 70.3 Monaco and 2nd at the XTerra World Championships.
Building upon this momentum, the 2010 season saw Weiss at the top of the podium. With his trademark fast bike splits, Weiss earned the nickname of Wiki Miki or "Fast Michi.” His victory at the inaugural 2010 Ironman St. George was no exception and truly put Weiss on the map as he crossed the finish line in an astonishing 8:40:08.
"We are incredibly thrilled to welcome Michi to our team,” said Sports Multiplied, LLC Co-Owner, Richard Verney. "He has proven himself to be a triathlete with an extremely bright future ahead of him. We could not be happier to work with and outfit Michael in the apparel and compression gear necessary to claim even more podiums this year.”
With Rohto Ironman 70.3 Oceanside on the horizon, Weiss looks to turn in another solid performance alongside fellow Team 2XU athlete and first year professional triathlete, Mandy McLane.
